have developed wax on the soft foam-like material inside the sound canal itself. Any ideas how to clean this or just pull it out

You could try putting 2mm or so of ear cleaning solution (usually has some hydrogen peroxide) in a small dish and placing the tips in it.

If you search there's a few who have done something similar to their IEM's foam tips.


You could also try it on a q-tip.
