I'm putting a BOM together and am thinking of doing an external power supply. I'm looking for some connectors that would work well, and would not be confusing.

I found one, but I haven't heard back from the manufacturer about where to buy and cost and other available options. http://www.lappusa.com/catalog/LS1Overview.htm

The other one, I'm looking at is what Ray Samuels uses on his Apache and B-52. http://www.raysamuelsaudio.com/products/apache Does anyone know what that is? It's not a standard 5-pin DIN.

Worse comes to worse, would a standard 4-pin DIN handle the power requirements? What is the current rating for the CK2III power section, and for the sigma22 (I would likely use the same connectors)?

Thanks!

I used a 4-pin mini Din on mine.

Professional speaker interconnects are generally ideal for this; utterly foolproof, indestructible, designed for high currents and low impedance, and not so obscure they'll be hard/expensive to find. Consequently they're big and heavy-duty, however.

Amphenol has their PDN series, Neutrik has Speakon (or Poweron).

It looks to me like Ray is using some kind of snake cable, possibly designed for professional audio or video rigs. Possibly EIA circular connectors used for cameras? There are lots of different circular connector styles though... You might check Hirose's catalogue to see if you can find something you like. Personally I think the speakon option is preferable and probably cheaper and easy to source. You can probably get 'em from your local musicial gear shop.

Markertek carries Speakon connectors; you can get a nice pair (jack and socket) for about $15.

Thanks error401, it's exactly what I'm looking for. Non-XLR/DIN type, robust, and locking.

I'm going to use a 4-pole connector, as you suggested. They are a bit big, so I need to ensure proper mounting to the chassis and not just faceplates. I would love to use the Amphenol, it just has that extra thing to it, but it's just too big in diameter (2"). Speakon it is.

Thanks again.

Not that there's anything wrong with the 4-pole Speakon, but I don't think the PDN connectors are that large. From the product brief they're no larger than the Speakon, and are possibly a little smaller. Probably harder to find though...
