I have been waiting for christmas to get some really nice headphones for gaming. I have been looking at the HD590's and 570's and I don't know what else. Please suggest or comment on anything. I've got to get this straight!

The Beyer 250-80s are my favorite phones for gaming. I dont think you will find anything better.

Alot depends on wheter you want isolation. I ALWAYS prefer closed cans for gaming. When i was in the market for gaming cans i bought the Senn HD280s and the Beyer 250-80s and tested both. They were both good, but the 250-80s seemed to have better, more responsive bass for gaming. I also feel the 250-80s did a better job with creating a more-realistic surround experience. I ended up sending back the 280s. It was a tough call though as the 280s are considerably cheaper.

O so sorry! I forgot to say I wanted them open! thanks!

Ya, I've really been looking at the 590's but at this CPL alot of the headys look like 570's I dunno. I think going with the 590's is a good idea?

Well here in Denmark (buying from Germany though) the beyerdynamics 250/80 aka DT 770 is 30% more expensive than Sennheiser HD590.. too much for me =)

DTT 250/80 is not the same as the DT 770.

I suggest you cough up the money now instead of upgrading later down the line. That too, will save you money! You would only buy 1 can.

for sound card gaming, go for a low impedance headphone. If you connect the sound card to a receiver, integrated amp or headphone amp, it will sound that much better. (I'm sorry for the grammer).

For gaming, may I suggest something in the $100 area? This would include the K240S/55 and the DT531, closed and open respectively.

Likewise the Grado SR80 makes for a good solo gaming headphone (no LAN partying), as might some of the comfortable Sonys (CD380, CD780, etc).

Obviously I prefer cloth to leather or leatherette pads, although the cloth/velour pads will soak up sweat; but at least your ears should not heat up as with the latter.

I second Wallijonn's recommendation for the 240S although I do not think that they should be thought of as closed phones. Although the 240S are, by definition, semi-closed they leak a lot of sound and do not isolate very well at all, so for these reasons I would consider them open headphones. Overall I think the 240S are a good deal for the money--I don't totally love them--they can sound a laid back, undetailed and overly warm with kinda rubbery bass--but something keeps on drawing me back to them. I guess I just like something about their sound.

For what it's worth I'd also place the 240S way ahead of the HD590s for gaming, music or anything related to sound for that matter. The 240S and HD590 have a somewhat similar sound characteristics and soundstage with the major differences being that the 240S sounds much better and are less expensive than the HD590 ($100 for the 240S, $150 for the HD590). To my ears the 240S sounds at least something like reality while the HD590 does not (bass is too bloated, highs too sharp and midrange is too recessed and husky sounding). Just my take, others will disagree.

I'd be one of them... I love the hell out of the 590's (especially with DVD-Audio).

For what you will be using them for the 590's is a bit of overkill but it does have great positioning, wonderful bass and they're really comfy to boot. They're also really easy to drive (much easier to drive then the lower impedence 570, not sure what the deal is there... driver efficiency or something).

the only reason I was considering the 590's alot was the fact that I know they are open(non-isolated) and that was what I needed. And with Sennheiser all over the gaming realm I just happened to fall there first. The 240S looks closed to me =/

I would suggest the HD590s for gaming, too. As Jasper994 said, they are easy to drive so won't have a problem with a sound card as the source, and they are very comfortable.
