Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread

Well.... A lot of what Drew said is true but most of it applies to the original Hugo. Once the Hugo 2 is reviewed and compared to the Hugo TT we will have a better idea of how they perform against each other.

Look at the Hugo 2 specs. It still does not include most all the things the Hugo TT includes vis-a-vis the article.

This is my first step into the serious high end of Headphones Hi-Fi. I currently listen to music on my PC, this has been the case for last 10 years or so as I had very little time devoting listening to music. I currently use Logitech 2.1 speakers with my PC which cost me about $500 a while back, to be honest they sound a way lot more better than the Hugo TT + LCD 3 or any other combination I tried costing 10 times or more than those speakers.

This is directly in conflict with the general view that the headphones are the least expensive way to get great sound.

I honestly think you don't like good sound. Some people just don't. They like inflated bass, sharp treble and fake 'surround' sound with their music. They then hear high quality 'stereo' sound and think theres no 'sound stage', no bass and the treble is rolled off. It's very common with millennials, and no offence intended but it's probably just your brain and it's preferences. It's akin to be a cheap drunk - be happy you don't need to spend thousands like the rest of us to get there.

there are plenty of people who come on here to troll and tweak people....if I was to go onto a car forum and state that I think a 10 year old honda accord is better than a 100K mercedes people wouldnt pay them any mind...I suggest the same here

Obviously there will be a HugoTT 2 coming. It's probably a Hugo 2 inside but with some tweaks like galvanic isolation.

A more-resolving TT would be great. I love the form factor of the TT. Nothing fits better and less obtrusively on a desk with this supreme level of sonic performance (with no heat!).
(Especially by black one.)
The TT really lives up to its table-top name. I feel it's an ergonomic triumph.
Gee, maybe Chord will offer a factory conversion of the original TT. Maybe the main chip could be replaced.

Hi
I just got a chord Hugo TT and am loving it with my HD800.
But I've noticed that the charge light on mine has remained on despite it being 7 hours since I plugged it in. The manual mentions that it should turn off after 5 hours once charged.

Anyone else have their Hugo TT with the charge light always on?

With the unit on or off? My charge light remains on pretty much all the time when the unit is on. But it turns off when I turn the unit off. Mine is always plugged in.

Even with it off, the charge light is on. Also when I switch the unit on, the auth light is on as well. I don't even see a mention of auth anywhere in the manual. Do you know what it is for?

Leave it off and charging overnight and see what happens. The charge LED should turn off eventually. The battery in yours may have been drained.

The AUTH LED on when the unit is one is normal.

I can't give you a definitive answer, but having had a TT briefly, it wouldn't surprise me if what you're seeing is normal. Having said that, I think your best bet is to just ask Chord. I could be wrong, but I think this is where you need to go to register your TT and ask: http://www.chordelectronics.co.uk/get-support/. Best of luck!

Thanks for your response!

Edit: received response from Chord that this is normal since the unit has a lot of batteries to charge and takes a long time. Also, when switched on it consumes some of the battery charge and goes into charging mode!
Thanks everyone, my mind is finally at rest.

Any update on the TT vs. Yggy sonics subject?
I ask this because Stereophile has now reviewed both of these (there is a new review on the Yggy).
While the sonics were judged superb on both (by different reviewers), John Atkinson said that the TT's measurements were extremely good, but the Yggy's were less so.
(I'm agnostic on measurements and do not want to start up the classic debate, I just thought it was interesting and wanted to relay it here. I have not heard the Yggy but own the TT.)

From the Yggy article:
It's difficult to sum up the Schiit Yggdrasil's measured behavior. While the processor's analog circuitry is superbly well designed, its digital circuitry appears to have problems with high-level, high-frequency tones, and with the LSBs of 24-bit data. It's possible, of course, that the former will be rare with music, and that the latter will be obscured by the noise floors of recordings. But it does look as if the digital circuitry is not fully optimized. Hopefully, this could be addressed with a firmware upgrade.—John Atkinson

From the TT article:
With a product that offers, shall I say, idiosyncratic measured behavior, I have to spend a lot of time determining whether I have correctly characterized its performance or if there has been some peculiar interaction between the measuring system and the device under test. With Chord's Hugo TT D/A headphone amplifier, I had no such problems—this is an extraordinarily well-engineered component. I just wish I had had time to listen to it before shipping it back to Jon Iverson. (I took the hint.)—John Atkinson

I haven't heard the Yggy but did sell my Gungnir Multibit aftter I got the TT.  I've also heard of at least 2 members here who sold their Yggy after getting the TT.
