For general questions about speakers you are absolutely right.
But if you look for speakers that can be directly driven by the Hugo 2 it really becomes a very relevant question for this thread IMO.
I have been searching for information in the thread before, and the Omega Super Alnico has been recommended.

The whole product range looks like a really good match with their high efficiency, but due to their size those need lots of space, not suited for desktop.
On the high-end side of things I found recommendations for Voxativ based speakers
https://voxativ.berlin/drivers
But there's little information about small desktop speakers which can be driven by the Hugo 2 directly.
I ended up building some 3D printed speakers based on this design:

These little speakers work quite well for desktop listening, especially considering material costs of about $150 for the pair. Frequency response is decent. They have surprisingly deep but flabby bass, significant coloration and weak treble, but transparency is excellent when directly connected to the Hugo 2. It's still great for background music at work.
Another DIY option I find very interesting is this:
https://www.lautsprechershop.de/hifi/desktop_tl.htm, but the efficiency of 77dB is most certainly too low, even for the desktop.
My question to the community is if anyone is aware of a commercially available desktop speaker that can be directly driven by the Hugo 2.
Or even a professional kit for DIY construction small size and high efficiency. Target efficiency would be 85dB, but I guess 80dB would also work for low volume listening.
(the 3D printed speaker has 85dB and is easily loud enough for the desktop)
