I would only consider power from pure raw batterieshi all,
not posted in long time tempted to upgrade the power supply for my DAVE
thinking the Farad PS or sean jacobs DC3 maybe cannot stretch to the DC4/ARC6 price tag, tried searching but coulbnt find any comparisons of SJ DC3 vs Farad any views on this at all??
as additonal fyi system wise planning on mscaler also some point but been holding off for the quartet (been holding off for nearly 2 years now mind)
appreciate any advice/views thx
The possible downside of that is that the Dave needs all of its three dc voltages to be applied pretty much simultaneously. Failure to do this risks net dc voltage appearing on components that do not expect it, with the result that they will likely be burned.I would only consider power from pure raw batteries
The sj and the Farad take care of this requirement by using a control board. The control board only applies the voltages to the Dave circuit when all the voltages from the supplies are present and stable. The stock smps has the equivalent functionality effectively built in.
@Reactcore got around this in his battery solution by supplying over 100V dc from the batteries to the stock smps - an ingenious if somewhat hair-raising solution.

Youre mistaken.USER=152636]@Reactcore[/USER] got around this in his battery solution by supplying over 100V dc from the batteries to the stock smps - an ingenious if somewhat hair-raising solution.![]()
My Choral battery unit feeds stabilised 5v for Dave's digital and for its analog section raw unregulated +16v / -16v from combined 3v2 Lifepo4 cells. Dave already has internal linear regulation.
Further, like Farad, my battery has a low/missing voltage protection built in.
Sj has no protection circuit for missing voltages as far as i know.
My bad, I must have been thinking of some other proposal I saw somewhere.Youre mistaken.

that good to hearI can tell you from personal experience that the Farad3 plus getting your system off the mains will give you exceptional results.

when you mean system off the mains do you mean using optic isolation aswell?
It elevates transparency, plus it gives the headphone amp stage in the Dave a bit more oomph to drive more difficult cans.that good to hearwhat was the main difference with the farad 3 added ?

By "off the mains" I mean that no part of the system is plugged into a wall socket for power - ie that it runs from batteries.

Youve probably seen @stemiki his setup. He created my 1st idea to feed a stock Dave 160Vdc from a battery. My bad, I must have been thinking of some other proposal I saw somewhere.

That's your perception of it, I looked around and formed my opinion, which you will not change. At the end of the day, I will not buy their products and that's the end of it.But thats exactly what you have done, taken Golden Sound on his word without any proof. However even Golden Sound has accepted their response on this matter, good enough for him….
Oh its scapegoat by the way an escape goat is something quite different I would think, auto correct for you.

I've been offered a Dave for a good price but put off due to the age of the product now? that being said I guess anything that proceeds it will cost a fortune anyway.
If you have had chance to listen to a Dave then get it. Doubtful there will be a replacement anytime soon.I've been offered a Dave for a good price but put off due to the age of the product now? that being said I guess anything that proceeds it will cost a fortune anyway.
How old is the actual unit? I there any warranty left?I've been offered a Dave for a good price but put off due to the age of the product now? that being said I guess anything that proceeds it will cost a fortune anyway.
But you are also correct, what else is out there for the same money? I’m guessing if it’s a good deal it should be slightly south of £6k?
