Read the sticky at the top of the Get-together/Meet section. Those are great insights into a Meet.

Larger Meets= Variety= More Work on Your part=Less opportunity for you to listen

Small Meets= Less variety= A lot less work= More opportunity to listen

I guess what I'm trying to say is, anyone that wants to throw a Meet should ask themselves what they are trying to get out of the Meet.

I wanted to have a lot of variety, have a lot of fun, and meet a lot of people. A lot of listening was not on my to-do list, and I knew that before the Meet. Now I feel like going to a SMALL Meet with maybe 4-5 other people.

Small meets have a lot of advantages over other Meets. I will throw another Meet in the future, but I'll have it at my house, no raffle, etc. An opportunity to do some serious listening in a relaxed, quieter atmosphere and chat with just a handful of people about music. (With munchies and beer!)

Those are my thoughts. Take them for what they're worth.

Very true, Andy. I had a BLAST at the meet I had at my place, but it was about the same size as the one you just had, and the only "listening" I really did was the couple times I played some vinyl for folks on my speaker rig. If you host a meet of good size, you mostly play host. But for me (and clearly for Andy) this is also a way to have fun

Hosting IS fun.

Spence, just keep in mind that it is kind of in the boonies for some people. Still, not entirely unaccessible by train. Also keep inmind that hosting a meet even at your house runs about $150-200 in food, drinks, and power cords.

Hi Everyone,

Well there has been a little ripple in our ability to pass along the proceeds from the raffle to Headfi.org. I thought Jude ran a casino on the side, but I was mistaken (kidding).

I guess there are tax/gaming laws that could cause problems.

Jude is going to post where the money is going in this thread.

Now THAT is my idea of a good meet

I do personally prefer the smaller meets or what are referred to as "mini-meets". I say that even though I am part of the group planning probably the biggest headphone meet ever

Ummm...if algonquin is the boonies, what would you consider kenosha? (facepalm)

If people were able to drive up to kenosha for a meet, people will be fun hitting up algonquin for sure. Just throw out some dates, start a poll, and get rolling. Don't forget to collaborate though with bhd812 and ChiUniFi as you do not want to start stepping on people's toes.

Andy, after all your hard work, there's a beer for you anytime. We'll have to look into this, AFTER Rebels meet.
