How do the sony MP3 players such as the Sony NWZ-E436FB and the NWZ-S638FB compare to the higher end players like NWZ-A818 in terms of sound quality ? As i don't really have the money for the higher end models i would like to know.

You missed the large thread on the S63X. It was considered one of the best Sony players yet, and for incredibly cheap prices.
