Dunno, is it just a medioce headphone with good tuning but avarage technicalities? In this case i could get a used HD800 and had at least the party trick of wide soundstage

The HD800s is a newer revision with minor but useful upgrades but dosent think its worth it. Also the Sound can be harsh and you dosent get the sense of emotion that you would get with warmer headphones

Having owned and used the HD800 for a number of years, done the French Mod on same and used it for a couple of years, sold it and bought a HD800s which I used, I'm aware how this headphone sounds and what it is...
