Hey everyone,

So I am looking for an extremely cheap but decent quality DAC to link my computer via USB to my Little Dot MkIII headphone amp/preamp via RCA plugs. This unit should be relatively transparent, and I will only be taking into consideration the DAC and not amplification capabilities. I am thinking of the Creative X-Fi HD USB External Soundcard (http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-System-SB1240/dp/B004275EO4), or the NuForce uDAC (http://www.nuforce.com/hp/products/iconudac/ ). Both are about $100.

Does anyone have any experience/preference regarding these DACs, or does anyone have suggestions for a better DAC at about the same price?

Thanks!

It certainly is - the output from those RCA sockets is smooooth :)

Definitely the best 200 AUD I have spent in audio, but that mellow sound sig may not be to the liking of those who want a sharper, tighter DAC. At that price point, I'm just not sure that you are going to get that sort of DAC anyway.
