Uses the daughterboard connection on your Sound Blaster Live to add SP/DIF and optical digital input/outputs.

For $34, why not?

The "why not" is that the SB Live is still going to resample digital to 48 KHz, and it does not do this all that well.

The Hoontech Digital XG retails for about $79. It includes the daughterboard, Yamaha XG chipset, and does NOT resample digital input. Very useful to recording 44.1 to PC. Cleaner than SB Live as well. The Hoontech will resample output to 48 MHz (if there is no signal at the input), but I don't use my computer as a playback device, only a recorder (and the Yamaha chipset is pretty good compared to SB Live anyway). My setup uses an ART DI/O with the Hoontech XG, and it works rather nicely...

HMMM. I may need one of those if I have to give up one finding a clean unsampled USB/USB2>Coax external converter.

I'd like to get a laptop some day, though, and this card wouldn't help me there.
