What are good dvd players under $250?

Needs to play dvd+/-R videos and svcd.

The low end market is flooded with dvd players.

I got a philips dvd727.
It plays everything I throw at it.
It also does pal-ntsc conversion and is multiregion capable too.
(set via the remote. no chips!)
Great picture quality with the 4x video oversampling.

They normally go for under $100.
Amazon has them for $74.88.
Click on the link above and help jude out if you decide to go for it.

A truly great DVD player in the video section (the analogue audio section left something to be desired, but when hooked up digitally to an A/V receiver was great!)

Unfortunately they were too good and Panasonic withdrew them from the market because they were hurting sales of their more expensive (but technically inferior) equipment. They've been unavailable for a while now.

The build quality was only fair on these units, so over time, they will become increasingly rare, or so I predict. I wonder if you can get one in good condition for under $250 these days.

I've seen them for under $150 (U.S.). You can get them for $150 at many places.

Can't say how much they go for in Australia.

What about the Sony NS-725P? There were some discussion a short while ago about how great this DVD player is. My friend has this model. It seems to work well. I haven't had the chance to really scrutinize it though.

usually most DVD players will play DVD -R but not +R. I believe Magnavox has a +R player. Neither will they do variable bit rate (VBR) MP3s, and some will only do a set range (say 128-192) while others will go up to 320BR.

i second the pioneer 563a .. it does dvda and sacd and plays all your vcd svcds ... and there seems to be some insane mods to them that takes them to a whole a new level, and at 150 bux, a dang good deal.

Is this technically the same as the NS-730?

Also is the pioneer 563a pretty much the same as the dv-566k?

Cant seem to find them on the pioneer or the sony site.

Thanks for the help guys.
