In iTunes, I typically go into 'Get Info', then 'Options' on a track, and bump the volume up to maximum (ie. the slider is all the way to the right). I used to do it just out of habit.
Does that hurt sound quality? And if it does, even if you put the volume back down to the middle of the slider, will it not restore the quality because the damage already done - because once the computer has processed it, the dynamics are taken out?
