Fantastic genre of music. As of right now, there aren't a whole lot of bands out there, however I highly recommend you try and get into it.. its extremely rewarding.
I myself have always been a fan of more melodic metal, and celtic music has always fascinated me with its distinctly beautiful signature. Thus, I ended up hearing about a band called Eluvieitie. I have not turned back. They incorporate traditional folk instruments with melodic metal, plus they sing in Gaulish which is a language commonly considered extinct. Anyway, please set aside all biases you might have in relation to metal, and allow your ears to be enlightened.

Fantastic female vocals in this one. She sings in Gaulish the whole time.

Beautiful instrumental

I am totally in love with the flute solo in the chorus of this one

So yea, if you find yourself into any of this, I recommend their album Slania.

And something more recent by one of the same gang.  Nominated for Best Contemporary Folk Album Grammy this year.  (Also check out old Steeleye Span - "Allison Gross" live form '74 on YouTube comes to mind).  Checkout Solas and Altan for more folky/traditional but still really interesting and lovely music.

Good stuff, thanks.  If you haven't already listened to them you might also like:

Faun
Corvus Corax
Tempest

Not quite as metal, but worth a listen

Faun definitely struck a chord with me, I'll be sure to add them to my 'to-get' list.

Excellent!  Pretty sure I'll be buying that one.  And here are some spiritual ancestors (not metal, but in a similar groove):

I'm hoping  I didn't go too off-topic on you, but some of these older things do have the punch.  And once again, thanks on the initial recommendation.

Try Pagan Reign, an awesome melodic folk metal band from Russia. They've been split up for a few years, but all of their albums are good. The albums Tverd and Ancient Warriors are probably a good place to start.

I am also an Eluveitie fan! I recommend you Orphaned Land!

Not celtic but still good! :)
