It may sound bizarre, but the CD player of my little Sony system recently started to play music a bit faster than normal. The change is subtle, yet detectable and very annoying. I have alerady decided to replace this unit with something better but it would be nice to have the little Sony as a back up bedroom system, since my Ultrasone Trackmaster tend to sound very nice through its headphone out.

Any helpful info on the possible ways to slow down the damn machine is welcomed.

the clocks are probably off. Over time oscillators will change their frequency slightly which will cause data to run +/- off of ideal. Heat also does this. It's generally not detectable as we're proably talking perhaps 10 ppm error / year maximum. It's also possible that the range of frequency drift is getting larger. Any oscillator will equal it's intended frequency on the average, but may be a little +/- at any given time. Usually this is around 5-10 ppm, but again, with time and heat can widen.
