cd3k or sa5000?

You know what I'm going to say!! If you have the chance to get a CD3000, then don't pass it up! You might not have the chance again. I love the both of them, but if you are looking for a bit more bass slam, with almost as good of an upper end, then go with the 3K. You will be able to better tolerate the 3K's highs, as sometimes, particularly with very well recorded music, or CD's with a lot of treble, the upper end on the 5K, can get fatiguing.

Then again, a good tube amp, will put the 5k in it's place!!

I own both and find the CD3000 briger than the SA5000. For rock, it's a close call. The speed and tightness of the SA5000 (particularly the low end) make them a good choice for rock. However, the extra weight of the CD3000's low end is nice too. The headstage of the CD3000 is clearly superior, in my opinion, but for studio recorded rock, it tends to create an exaggerated, but not unejoyable soundstage.

Just wondering if the cd3000 is a can with a grado lovers balance plus a soundstage while the sa5k has a gradolike soundstage with an analytical stat sound? Do I have that right? If so, I feel like I need to find me some cd3ks

I don't know about CD3000 but SA5000 is just great for rock/hard-rock/metal. I did long comparison between SA5000 and HF-1 and SA5000 stayed in the house. I just love that superfast and tight bass with punch. Electric guitars and basses have never sounded so impressive, they have really good body with SA5000.

Like the others have said, if you have a chance to get a CD3k, get it, since they are becoming so rare. If you don't like it, or are still curious, try the SA5K, since they are much easier to come by. It's obvious which one I ended up with, but they're both very enjoyable, just different.

Oh, and BTW I didn't find the CD3000 too bright when I owned them, until I put them with the wrong associated gear. I've also found the SA5000 to not sound too bright, but also, with the wrong gear, they have. I think both headphones just need to avoid a bad matching amp/source to aboid sounding too bright.

Compared to my CD-3000's I sold the SA-5000's immediately. The sound on the SA-5000s was painfully bright to me! I never found my CD-3000's to be bright at all. This is out of my EMU 1212m and larocco custom PR. Chris
