Hello all, first-time poster, longtime lurker

I'm fairly new to this area and am interested in getting involved. Is there an FAQ or site that someone could recommend on getting a good CD-Player. I'm not looking for anything Ultra high end, but I'm willing to spend a few hundred bucks to get started.

I really enjoy listening to headphones over speakers (mainly becaues my wife hates my tastes in music

) and I already plan on getting some decent headphones. Probaby a Sennheiser HD model.

Any info someone could offer will be greatly appreaciated. Thanks

Welcome to head-fi. First off you should know that there is no perfect product just the best product for you. So to get the best product we need to know as much about your listening habits, tastes, preferences, and set up. This would include , portability, bass vs. treble preference (rock vs. classical), isolation needs, how much music you have, and pretty much everything else that i have forgotten to ask.

I guess I did leave you hanging there. I know what it's like for someone to ask vague questions and expect detailed answers from the computer hardware forums I frequent

I prefer Rock music mostly, I don't necessarily prefer Bass heavy sounds, just enough to know it's there. Mids aren't as important because, well, Rock isn't known for great mids...
Portability: Not a big deal, I usually listen to stuff at home on my computer or stereo.
Isolation: no preference
and I have a very large MP3/OGG music collection and a modest CD collection. Again, mostly on the computer.

Thanks for any help.

If you have a large collection of MP3/OGG, may be you should be considering a good soundcard over home CD player?

A good soundcard would be a start.
I know that most audiophiles generally shun the Creative Labs Audigy cards. So what would be recommended.

I've heard good things about M-Audio, but don't know for sure. What are some good high end cards?
Also, what headphones would be a good match for a sound card. I'm sure there are many mainstream heaphones that would be considered overkill for this setup.
