I just bit the bullet on my forth CD book yesterday. I had CD's and album covers stacked in drawers from overflow so it was over due. I find the books to be the best way to go because you can flip through the pages and look at all the covers which is useful in finding something you are on the hunt for or just being reminded of something you have not heard in a while.

I did a page count to figure out about how many CD's I have and it's at about 436

You people that have 800+ must be buried in your music!

So how do you store your albums?

I'd be careful of those CD books... IME some of them damage CDs, maybe most of them. The ones from Slappa are excellent, and that's what I store (some of) my store bought CDs in. I don't care as much about CD-R's, and keep those in a cheaper book. It does do a bit of damage over time from rubbing the plastic, but it's not too bad and a CD-R can always be reburned.

I use the CaseLogic ones and many of my CDs do have some minor scratches on them but I have never had a problem playing them even on really crapy CDPs so I'm not really worried about it. For a while I had a CDP that was scratching CD's and many of them have gone camping and taken abuse there so I don't even know that I'd fault the cases for all the scratches.

I have a cd shelf system that stores about 1500 cds. One is about 80% full. It's really the only thing that keeps my music (among other stuff) organized. I need to get another one tho'....

The girlfriend didn't want the CD's out on display like I used to have. I looked into specific CD storage systems, which for my 500 CD's or so was going to cost around $1000. I picked up an old filing cabinet from a business fire sale for $50. I highly recommend this as a cheap solution. Make sure the cabinet is built to handle the weight of all the CD's (industrial strength).

Some of mine are taking up the space on the bottom shelf of my equipment rack, while others are on a cheapo CD rack. Then there are some that are still in boxes that I haven't quite unpacked since I moved the last time.

I also have all of my cds in their jewel cases stacked on top of one another on my book shelf. Not the ideal nor the safest way to store them and I should really invest in a rack or shelf to neatly store my cds but don't have much space in by room for one.

Most CDs are in jewel cases inside cardboard boxes, with some of the most frequently used CDs in a rack near my computer.
However, I find that I don't use CDs all that often. HDD storage is so much faster. The last time I used a CD was to reinstall Windows XP on a PC.
