Perhaps even sadder is how regular individuals see nothing wrong with selling off everything to the highest bidder. Obviously we all need money to live, but just as obviously there are many many ways to get it.

I agree with everything Albini says, but in this case I don't believe Chan intended the song to be art so it doesn't matter. If I heard something off one of her albums on an ad it would be different, but this was recorded solely for the commercial so it seems.

I'm against it, but I gotta admit if I were a musician it'd be hard to resist making some real easy money.

That's the bottom line -- sorry "fans"!
No one can afford to be "noble" and altruistic, if some money can be had.
We all have to make a living.
All the years in college -- all the years practicing/playing music in hopes of making it big -- all in expectation of making money! Else, why bother?
Selling-out?

Please -- offer it to me!

Take away the big bucks in ANY big-bucks-type profession, and see how many practioners stay around.....that's reality.
Yeah, there's always exceptions, and "starving artists" -- but mostly not by choice!
Nobility and altruism is a special affliction among students, especially, it seems...always is, and always has been....

Be altruistic and flame away if you like.
Doesn't bother me, cause i know the truth.
Existentialisim IS.

Musicians in it for the money are there for all the wrong reasons. This is an art form, not a ******* product.

Art and commerce, the eternal conundrum. Personally I think anything the artist produces is completely and totally theirs, and they can do whatever the hell that they want to. Sell it, destroy it, give it away, etc. It is true that our lives are richer for exposure to art, but the artist doesn't "owe" us jack.
