Last spring my boys Yuki and Maru both disappeared, never to return home, and I was absolutely gutted. Not sure why cats are disappearing in my neighborhood, but I suspect somebody is rounding them up thinking they are strays.

A couple weeks ago a friend gave me a couple more kittens to replace the cat shaped hole in my heart.

Orange one is Oscar, black one is Maya. Together they're Oscar-Maya.

I think this time before I send them outside I'm going to get them chipped, collared, and get security cameras outside my house. I can't handle losing cats again.

I don't think it's predators getting the cats, because my 15 year old cat is still kicking, and she sleeps outside at night.

They are so cute! Happy you have another pair! Definitely chip them.

I haven’t been able to keep a collar on our cats since breakaway collars came on the scene. Eventually ours figure out a front paw under the collar pops it open🙀

Best wishes and enjoy your new kittens!

Maybe make the new cats just indoor cats? No cat needs to go outdoors ever. It is Way too risky for them and they kill a ton of birds just for fun.

Of course I know that most people don't care.

I have loved my cats and dogs WAY too much to ever let them run loose.

I have one indoor cat, and to be honest it feels like I'm keeping her prisoner. She doesn't play at all; all she does is sleep, eat, and use the litter box. It doesn't seem like a very nice existence, but at this point in her life it's too late to let her be an outdoor cat.

It's awful losing cats though, especially when I think that Yuki and Maru probably got separated. They were a bonded pair, so it's a miserable thought not just losing them, but they lost each other. Still, it's so rare throughout my life to have cats go missing like that I feel taking that risk leads to happier cats. I figure between the chip/collars and security cameras I can mitigate the risk, or at least catch whoever is grabbing the cats.

We had two cats go missing for a day during recent flooding. My Wife decided to "Show them outside was wet", assuming that they would aquiese to her wishes and come back inside. They're not very bright.

Lack of clarification on "they're" is deliberate to maintain plausible deniability.
