since i got a new car with cassette and cd ive been enjoying some old very good fi tapes i made years ago. Some of the recordings are no longer available on vinyl or cd. How can I transfer these to cd using my computer cd burner and a teac tape deck.

Since cassette decks already output line-level signals you don't need a preamp, making recording very easy. You simply plug the line-out/tape-out of your cassette deck (usually on the back of it) into the line-in on your computer. If you're looking for a soundcard reccomendation (most consumer and onboard soundcards have crap ADCs, though some are decent) you should look into the EMU 0404 or 1212m which are both pro cards with good quality ADCs.
