This Binary Universe is really good. Is this their best? The earlier stuff seems to be more trance.

TBU is my fav, Morbid likes Morceau Subrosa. I really dislike the early stuff
it is more trance like. Ambient is the way to go.

TBU was when the evolution started. It was my favorite until Morceau Subrosa & If the Stars... Barely edging out These Hopeful Machines.

Here's how I'd rank everything from TBU on.

Morceau Subrosa
If the Stars Are Eternal So Are You and I...
This Binary Universe
These Hopeful Machines

We should be seeing another album release from his this year which is the follow up to THM (so more Trancey). He's released...3 singles for it so far, I believe. He's also collaborating with a band that will be releasing their debut album in 2013.

I'd check out some of his film score work as well. Monster was great.

While I think TBU and THM are tied in my book (they're so different it's hard to call one better than the other) I still plan on my THM tattoo.

EDIT: Screw that. MS, THM, ITS, TBU. Haters gonna hate. They're seriously all brilliant.

Since you are always talking about BT, I gave that one a shot. I really wanted to like it, but I was quite unimpressed. I don't know much about electronic music, but I'm trying to expand my horizons. That record seemed kind of like a lot of waiting around for something to happen, and then eventually some rhythms that seemed oddly out of sync. I'm not opposed to the experimental nature of it, I just found it to be sort of dull. A recent record I've heard that might be in a similar stylistic vane is Monolake - Ghosts. I think that one is much, much better.

I'm not giving up. I will try some of the other BT records and see what I think, but I just didn't like "If the Stars..."  much at all.

Morceau Subrosa is my favorite of his but I guess you might find it dull. It's a neoclassical piece overlaid by an amazing soundscape. That's what I'd call it anyway. You could try These Hopeful Machines if you're into Trance at all. It's very different from the more Ambient TBU, If the Stars..., or MS. The cheese on THM might turn some people off though.

The reason I think If the Stars... wowed me was the way he could make different genres flow into each other so well. Ambient, Dubstep, Trance, Minimal, and even a sexy acoustic guitar. Our Dark Garden is my favorite track.

Ghosts is very good, but very different as well.

I would like to hear Morceau Subrosa since that is your favorite. I subscribe to both MOG and Spotify and use them both as a way to audition new music when I'm not sure if I'm ready to purchase. Unfortunately, both Morceau Subrosa and This Binary Universe seem to be unavailable on either service. Perhaps it is a label issue, because some of BT's other stuff is available. I guess I could try YouTube or something, but the sound quality on YouTube is usually so poor that I don't listen to much music there. So, I guess I am left with These Hopeful Machines because that is available on MOG and Spotify. I'll try that one.

I can't imagine someone not finding at least something in his catalogue that they really like. Morceau Subrosa is one 46 minute track, so YouTube might not work, and unfortunately it'd sound like butts. The production value would be totally lost via YouTube.

If you end up just not finding something you like I'd be disappointed, but understand I guess. :D

(While it's somewhat relevant this thread has kind of turned in to BT: The Thread. lol)

You should try out This Binary Universe and Morceau Subrosa, for the non trance sound. More ambient.

But tracks like Dreaming: off the Movement In Still Life album and A Million Stars: off the album These Hopeful Machines are really good, too.

Emotional Technology was a miss for most people but I'd recommend Somnambulist and Force of Gravity off that album. 2 favorites.

If I could choose a walking soundtrack for my life it'd be music like this. All day, every day. Can't stop putting this on repeat on my iPod when I walk to dog.
