Intimate soundstage in my exp has to do with loudness, so i guess since hd598 shows highly separated and positioned instruments it's hard to achieve intimate sounds (ie in front of you) with insufficient volume.
The louder the sound is your brain naturally interprets it as close.
Since on m50 everything is of the same volume and not imaged, as it is a flatish analytical headphone, everything feels in front of you, but not with hd598.
Are you running an amp? That should improve intimate sounds imho
