I'm currently looking for a good headphone around 200$ and I am interested in either hd555 or 595. Although my primary use will be at home, so I wouldn't mind if its open, but I would want to use it for my portable too. Should I get a hd555(105$)+hd280(65$) or hd595(175$)?I would want to get the best possible sounding phone in the price range, and I would choose the 595 if it is significantly better than the 555. Thanks

I'd get the HD555 (very good all-around cans, and comfy too) plus the Shure E2 (can be had for as little as $55, at Guitar Center) for portable, unless you don't like the idea of canaphones, in which case, perhaps the PX100/200 would be more appropriate as portable cans, the HD280 is awfully big to go outside with.

Thanks for the fast reply. I wouldn't mind the size or the shape of the phones unless it has good sound. I wouldn't want to use canalphones because it hurts my ears when I put them on. I usually listen to classical and jazz music.

for classical and jazz, the etys would be great.

If you want a home and a portable for $200 I would get the HD555 for home use and something else for portable. The HD 555 and 595 are similar and the difference may not be big enough for you if they are not well amped.
