Wasn't sure whether or not to put this in the headphones or amp section, but since the question revolves around the amp, here goes...I enjoy the Woo Audio 3 Amp quite a bit, but I don't think the headphones I have do it justice (Senn HD595, Alessandro MS-1), or unleash it's potential anyway. I've got an abundance of great tubes to choose from, including TungSol 7236 and Jan 5998 Power tubes, and pairs of GE 6BZ7QA's and Amperex(6DJ8) for drive tubes. I'm just not sure what headphones would synergize with this amp the best. I'm leaning towards AKG701 or MS2i/ 325i's. Mostly listen to classic and hard rock. I also seem to prefer the MS-1 sound with this amp over the HD595's. Any suggestions from Woo or other tube amp owners would be greatly appreciated.

I think (Headphile) Grado SR225 goes well with Rock and MS2i goes well with Jazz or classic. If you enjoy the MS1 sound...you will absolutely like the sound of MS2i.

Pete,

Don't use grado anything with woo3 IMHO, grado is great with SS amp and PPX3. See if you can get a used cheap pair of HD600, it has great synergy with the Woo3. If you need to borrow a pair of HD600 let me know, I have a used one on the way.

cheers

Thanks a lot, Jim. That's unselfish team-playing there...

I think I 'm going to be getting HD650's. It's been suggested to me that the Woo3 will synergize better with high impedance cans. We'll see what happens.

Love my Woo 3 with AKG 501, 271s, DT880, HD650. Have MS2i's but so far don't like them that much with any amp. Bright and uncomfortable. 501's and 880's are super comfy and play well with the Woo. I listen to vintage jazz and have been thrash rocking out lately with the 271s which are sealed cans. 501's and Woo3 are the ticket for 50'-60's saxophone based jazz. HD650 and 880's seem to do everything well. I don't think you can go wrong with the Woo3 with any can. Given the brightness of Grado/Alessandro cans, I would think the Woo would tame them down a bit but I do not find that the case with my MS2i's. I have a big shouldered TungSol power tube and Groove Tube 6dj8's and this combo is DA BOMB. Way better than stock tubes or any other tube combo including Amperex 6dj8's.
