Ok, i have a pair of er4p and love the sound. However they are in ear buds and i cant wear them for a long time, are there headphones (close) that have the same sound characteristic? I have a pair of grados sr60, however they not my flavor. I also have a pair of DT777/80ohms which are great for playing games and bass heavy music but they dont offer the balance of the er4p. Any suggestions for headphones of $300 or less for new or used?

I've heard others call the Beyer DT-880 a "full size er4."

and unfortunately, IMHO, that's just not true. They share many characteristics such as deep tight bass and somewhat pronounced high's but the Etys are, to my ears, more emotional sounding of two due to the more "filled out" mid range. That's just my opinion tho and i can see how other would think differently.

To my ears, the closest I've heard is the Joe Grado HP-1.........unfortunately, they go for a bit more than $300, unless you get lucky.

I think he/she was asking for a closed headphone. I think you might find the HD280 Pros acceptable. They won't offer the same amount of detail the Er4p has by any stretch of the imagination, but they do have a somewhat similar tonal balance.

Not bright enough IMO.

It's still not all that dark, but I'm in the middle of burn-in. When I pick them up and have a listen, the word that pops into my head is "ety", but we'll see how that changes, I still have a ways to go.
