Hey dear forum,
I've been searching for a way in to the headphone market and have looked for some good cans under 100$, even used.
I know that there are all sorts of cans, some better some worse, but because most sellers don't ship to Israel, and if they do it's expensive I'm limited.
(source is ob sound card for now --> alac/mp3 320)
I'm looking for some cans good for folk-rock mainly . My top 8 artists according to Last.fm are:
1. Led Zeppelin
2. Pink Floyd
3. The Beatles
4. Bob Dylan
5. Simon & Garfunkel
6. The Doors
7. Pearl Jam
8. The Cat Empire

I just came across some used hd555s, for the price of 350NIS (equivalent to 90$). Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to listen to them so I'm counting on you. What do you say? Is it worth it or should I look for something else?

Thanks!

SR-80 from Grado. You will be impressed. Not the most comfy, but they sound really good and are easily driven.

For those artists, I would also go grado.

I should add that I listen to Zep religiously. I find it much more enjoyable with the Grado 325is (even the SR-60s) than many other sources. Pearl Jam's Vs. album is also way better with Grados.

Grado SR-80 for your music preferences (sub $100 + good value...)

Aren't the 555's better? I'll try the Grado's because the last time I checked them they weren't really comfy.
EDIT: I checked prices and the SR80s are sold 120$ new and couldn't find them used, I found the SR125 used at 110$ but it's over my budget. Unless I find a good deal on SR80s I'll go with the HD555's I think.

Audio-Technica M50, I'm bias, I just purchased these after demoing them in the store first (which I suggest you try).

I explained why getting the Grado SR80s is kind of a problem for me.
But I just remembered that there may be a store selling the Alessandro MS1 at a price of approx 95$. As I read by reviews they are quite similar to the SR80s. Are they?

The Sony MDR-V6 fits the bill with extra cash to spend. They sound great with rock, at least for me.
