Hey head-fi. Med student here, looking for good headphones around $100. Use will be with iPod, on commutes, in a moderately noisy library and home. IEMs aren't really my thing.

After looking through best buy, Amazon reviews, and lurking I come to you. I listen to a decent variety of music, from acoustic to classical to hardcore to folk.. Abby suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance.

Any pair of Grado's, they sound great. They can be a little uncomfortable and have a fairly long cord though.

Are you serious?
Yes, I'm sure open cans are just the thing to use on commutes and in a library . D

I don't have many cans to recommend based on my experience, but you most definitely don't want open ones.

I use the JVC S500. A lot of people really like them - I admittedly find them a bit harsh. Definitely bang-for-buck quality and sound, though. The Philips downtown/uptowns get pretty good ratings and can often be found for well below MSRP.

I'm sure other people can recommend more. Just... Not Grado.
