He was supposed to be coming and do a bit on CanJam on Tekzilla. I know he was going to have to fly down from SF on Saturday and fly back to cover the "Maker Fair" on Sunday but I didn't see him (and kinda forgot about it too).
Anybody know?

Jordan and I ran into him about 2 hours or so before he had to fly back to SF. We actually had a nice long conversation about headphones, computers, his son, iphones, and other general life occurrences. Really cool guy imhe.

Yup, he came to our room and we chatted for quite a while. He didn't have his video gear there, but did take some still pix.

Well, I'm finally back, unpacked, and read this thread.

All I can say is WOW! What an amazing show. Thanks loads to Jonny Numbers, David, Ed, Peter, Aaron, Luis, and Greg. Just unbelievable!

CanJam started about two weeks before hand for me.
I had to burn and label demo disks.

Make signs.

Round up gear ... that's the tough one. I left a number of cold dead fingers pried open.

Then after testing every thing out and scrounging up a bunch of spare stuff and tools it was time to get it all in boxes.

Pack it in the van.

553967808_5dguW-M.jpg

And hit the road. 2250 miles this time ... thank goodness for satellite radio.

I started setting up about 11am Friday.

By 1pm Ken was in the room listening. I don't have a picture of it, but I believe he was the first person to ever hear HD800s balanced.

Gotta make this one large: Beauty and the Beast.

Actually Steveo was a heckofalotta fun this time around. The only trouble he sort of got into was stealing Travis' (HeadRoom's new CEO) name tag. He even went down to the Hilton business center where they had a label maker and put his own name on it. Travis is a good sport and took it in stride. (I'll have to convince him to go down to a Florida meet and really let him go through the ringer.).

Dom does Desktop.

The McMan checks out gear using the sensory deprivation method.

And then it was time for ....

SCOTCH!!!

Sorry for those who missed out, it needed to be a very private affair, but suffice it to say the Glenrothes 1985 was exquisite. Thanks to the organizer ... you know who you are!

More coming ....

I really enjoyed your exhibit and all your wonderful gear. I am tempted by the P51 but would like to see how the Shadow will look. Any pics of it with the case?

Saturday started and I have to say that I thought this was one of the best rooms I've ever exhibited in. Low key, fairly quiet, and a good location. Thanks again to the organizers.

I did get out for a quick round of pix. My favorite.

Course Franks Zen-like peacefulness couldn't beat back the normal mayhem completely.

I wish I'd been there, wish I'd met all the fine chaps (and chapettes). I'll make the pond-hop next year!

Well, I planned to post part II of my impressions and post pictures a while ago but I have been sick in bed with a fever all week (don't worry... I don't have the swine flu
wink.gif
). I REALLY hope I didn't get anyone sick at CanJam. If so, I am so sorry, and I hope I am invited back in the future.

Here are some pictures. Some are probably duplicates, I apologize.

Asr's setup, that Spectral DAC is amazing!

My first meet and I can't tell you all what a treat it was..finally got to listen to the equipment that I read about here on Head-Fi.
For me Ironbut's tape playing some Robert Cray songs was magical.
And of course AMB's amps.
Just wanted to say thanks to all the people who put this on........

There's a lot of considerations when you lay out a piece of gear - things like RFI might not seem like a problem, but they are. You can get a lot of noise from something like a rectifier bridge, anywhere AC comes into the chassis, and a number of other considerations. This is where buzzes, hums, etc. come from.

Next, you need to consider and plan for heat. Heat is what kills components, more than anything else. You have to let it escape and allow the gear to cool itself while operating. You need to keep the most sensitive parts away from the hottest ones.

The material the case is made of is also important. Ferrous metals (e.g. steel and iron) can actually magnetically couple to the circuit, which can cause problems.

You also need to design for safety. A tube amp can have several hundred volts inside. You don't want to accidentally cook your customers or yourself while building them.

I could go on, but quality casework is important. It might not seem like it at first, but believe me, all these considerations can make the difference between a good and bad piece of gear.

Oh, Thanks!!! I've never known case is that important apart from affects the appearance of a device. Appreciate it very much.

Friendly enough to let you say, get some impressions of the 840s? Or maybe tell you when they might get released?
