What would be a good pair of headphones for rap and r&b? I was thinking about the ex71s, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

The Sony MDR-EX71SL came to mind, as did the Shure E2C & the Sharp MD33S. Etymotic ER6 & Shure E3C did not come to mind. I will leave it to others to explain their opinions on these & other canalphones, but either of the first three that I mentioned would be fair-good values & work well with the genres you specified.

Rap and R&B is almost the perfect genre for the Future Sonics EM3 (Good recommendation Jmmmm). Very enjoyable with bassy music and quite a nice purchase for the price (currently $99). These are my daily phones as I am afraid I might lose my UE10's if I commuted with them daily and the ER4's microphonic tendencies drive me nuts...for that purpose they are perfect for me, of course YMMV. As I always recommend...audition, audition, audition! Good luck!
