Just wondering, as I haven't cracked mine open to see - can one roll opamps in this one? I'm not sure if it's socketed, and what other opamps it might be able to use besides what's in it (not even sure what the stock PCII opamp is).

you canot op-amp roll with the pc-mk2.

but why would you want to?

i guess you could replace the 2 bipolar chips with comon opamps...

unsolder them from teh board, solder in sockets, put em (or whatever) in the sockets. PRAY that the sockets dont cause osciliation issues with the bipolar chips.

Do it, and switch into class A mode NOW.

2xLM6171, not socketed. Any single channel opamp should work in this circuit, but as with most 'opamp rolling' I'd have to agree with nikongod. Why? Those chips aren't in there by chance.

I only asked because in another post I had about the Porta Corda, someone who replied mentioned something about rolling opamps in it til it was closer to the flavor of my Pimeta, and I said "can you do that?". They said "I thought you already knew the answer to that..." like it was common knowledge, so I thought I'd delve into that a little more.

So I guess it's possible, but like you guys have said - why would one want to do that? I've found that the PCII is a good match for the DT250-250's I just got.. They're quite different in presentation from the DT770's I've been using, so that's the toughest part to get used to.

PeterR - it was in class A mode when I got it, and to be honest, it sounded a little harsh to me, so I switched it back to A-B mode, and I think I like the sound better in that mode (and I love having twice the battery life!). Seems a little easier on the ears in A-B mode. Thinking of switching the LED off as well (the manual says you can get about 20% more battery life that way-- I finally found a place online to download the manual).

Guilty as charged!

It was just a suggestion in an attempt to help the man find a 'Happy Place' and keep his DT770's!

actually, now that I go back to the PCII, the differences between it and the Pimeta are alot more subtle than I remember, so I decided to sell the Pimeta. The battery life will be a non-issue on the PCII, so that's a very good thing for me.

So basically the switch back to the PCII only cost me a out $15 out-of-pocket. Unless I decide to use the Pimeta $$$ to pick up some refurb'ed HD580's at ecost...

will it never end?!
