I do realize that having 40 posts on one page is a bit taxing on the server, but it doesn't really matter when a thread is just read normally.

Is it really so hard on the server that it has to be disabled? 15 posts per page is such a small number.

I realize how much stress a server running a site like this gets, so I can understand if we really can't have more posts per page...

I was going to say that you can, but i see that it's been changed to 5 10 and 15 now. I set mine to 40 a few days ago, and i still see 40 per page...

Options are great.
I personally prefer 20 or 25 posts per page though...

I had it set to 40, but I changed a setting before I realized 40 was no longer an option.

Ugh...mine was 40 too, but now I'm down to 15.

I rather like 20, have set it to 15 from 10. Maybe less posts per page means more page hits which means more ad displays? Maybe its a factor to do with the great crash of '07. Although people saying that the 20-40 options vanishing since after we came back is curious. I don't know how many kinks Jude and crew are still ironing out.

I actually did not think about this. But it makes sense, since more posts per view means more data upload.

It's less bandwidth, but it takes more power for the server to load 40 posts all at once. It may actually take the server more power to load a full thread at 10 posts per page rather than 40 posts per page, if you're reading the whole thread, however it will take more power to load 40 posts if you just want to read one post than it will to load 10 posts when you only want to load one.

If 40 posts per page is really too much for the server(s), can we at least get 20?

I digress...

Edit: I honestly think the bandwidth point is mute. Do you honestly think Head-Fi doesn't have unmetered bandwidth? I help run a site that pales in comparison to Head-Fi, and we still use unmetered bandwidth.
