Ok, nix the AT sound... Trying to communicate verbally about aural phenomena isn't that easy. Any descriptions, inferences, or generalizations encountered in this context shouldn't be taken too seriously. But elnero's good-faith effort to connect the dots for me was appreciated, and jibed with AT experiences I've had.

To get a bit more specific:

Bangraman,

Since it seems you've actually heard both the W100 and the A1000, could you mention some of the differences between these two? At the moment they look like my top two contenders. At first it seemed like the A1000 would be an all-round good bet. But there's a reviewer at Audiocubes who positively gushes about the W100.

Thanks.

Just a couple of thoughts after reading this thread up to this point.

As far as I know Kevin is the only member who owns both the A1000 and W1000, and has posted a review. So if he says that he can tell no difference in sound, I'm guessing that they do sound very similar.

I recently compared a well-broken-in W100 to my HD600 and DT931. I found the W100 to sound congested, with a narrower frequency range and soundstage. It did, however, have a superb midrange.

I'll have an A1000 in a few days. I'll post some comments about it then. Who knows, it may even go right up for sale
