I mainly use the Pico Slim in the following config:
iMod - ALO PV Cap - Pico Slim - JH13.
This is a nice sounding rig with plenty of headroom to drive the JH13s way above comfort well into pain.
If I plug in my Edition 9s I can enjoy rich full bass but only venture just above the comfort level. This means it has plenty of 'Horse Power' for most listening.
I never bought the Pico Slim for full size cans but it works well. Certainly fights above its weight, and the digital volume control is second to none!
Driving HD600s is a different story. Missing so much of the lower register and volume only gets to 70% of my comfort level.
I plug in my LCD2 into the Slim and I am surprised that it could drive it to fair listening level. But I have to turn the volume all the way to the max level. Of course my SR71B can handle the job much better and gives the sound more body and dynamics. I am getting my ED8 Le in a week and will look forward to try it out with the slim.
Sceptre and Jalo summarized it pretty well. The Pico Slim is great when you need extreme portability, or a great digital volume control for very sensitive headphones (mostly IEMs). If neither of these are a requirement you might as well get a more powerful amplifier. The 'regular' Pico is twice as powerful, and the upcoming 'Pico Power' is 4x as powerful.
FYI - there are portable amps of the same power output as the Pico Slim that are marketed towards driving "any" headphone. It's all in how the specs/marketing is delivered.
