Hi guys, just wondering as i am working in a call centre and always (4 days out of 6) have my music playing in my left ear and have my headset (to talk to the customers) on my right ear..
Its been like that for good 5 months..
I havent noticed anything weird or different and it doesnt bother me at all..
Can it do any permanent damage?

when you listen to music from only one side, and the other isn't listening at the same volume, it's quite possible that you'll turn up the volume louder than usual to compensate for the non-listening side.

best thing would be to set the volume for the music with both sides in, then simply taking one side out to make sure the one ear is listening at your normal comfortable level.

doing this doesn't mean you'll suffer permanent damage to one ear like, one ear will become more deaf than the other, it simply means you're more likely to have the volume too loud.

I guess it depends on how loud you are listening.
But it would probably be a wise thing to give the
ear a rest once and a while as duration of sound
exposure also plays a large part in the potential
for hearing damage.
The nature of some damage can be subtle and
creep up on you slowly in such a way that ones
brain also initially adapts to the change and when
you finally notice the damage is done!

you'll be fine as long as the one side that's listening to music is not louder than your normal listening volume with both sides.

if you feel the ear getting tired, give it some rest and maybe switch ears.

I think yes, as listening in one ear causes you to increase the volume 1.5x-2x more then usual.
If you listen at the same level as usual, then I don't think it could do harm.

i think as long as i have a 'balanced' sound in my brain that everything is fine..
i listen at low volumes anyway and i lower the volume on my headset as well to get as equal sound as possible..
Thanks for all the replys guys!!

I don't know about that... listening to my speaker setup while lying sideways on my bed always leaves one of my ears feeling "deafer". Can't be a good thing, I think.
