Can I use a TRRS jack as a replacement for a TRS jack? | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org

I need to replace the jacks for some of my headphones and I stupidly bought TRRS jacks instead of TRS. Is there any issue with using them? I imagine it would be a case of simply leaving the second ring unconnected, but I would like to be sure. The headphones I'm fixing are a pair of Sennheiser HD25's (finally broken after 7 years) and a pair of ATH-M50s.

It should not damage anything, but due to the extra ring one channel might not work. I bet it will work just fine though.

Short the second ring to ground and it would work the same.
