Can I replace the potentiometer knob on a Schiit Valhalla 2

I finally pulled the trigger on a Valhalla 2, which I think looks amazing but I'm just not a fan of the silver knob on the black unit. What would I need to look for to replace the knob? I suppose I would need the type, shaft size and diameter.

I wrapped the last couple of their amps I had with black matte vinyl automotive wrap. Looks factory and easier to grip on stuff like the Heresy where the grooves go the wrong way which makes it slippery.

I'm sorry, I should've been more clear. I'm looking to replace the pot knob. At the moment I'm trying to find the measurements for it. Unfortunately the manual doesn't have them.

• Use a tape measure / ruler to get the overall diameter and depth (typically in ‘mm’) for the knob.
• The ‘hole’ in the back of the replacement knob typically has a diameter of 6mm.

I saw in another thread that the Freya uses a 22mm knob, but it didn't specify if that was circumference or height. I don't know why I didn't think to measure it myself honestly lol. Thanks for the help!

If you scroll through amplifier volume knobs on EBay, you will find that the vast majority of postings show diameter and depth. Look for the 6mm specification to fit the knob.

So as long as it's a 6mm knob, it should, in theory, fit the V2?
When you take off the existing knob, if that rod is circular it should be 6mm. If that rod has a beveled shape, you will need the replacement knob to have that shaped hole in the back.

The pics on the product page show the circular rod, which seems to be the majority of what's for sale.
You should take the knob off and measure the hole or better - the shaft diameter. It could easily be 1/4" instead of 6mm. It all depends on the There is a difference and the knob will wobble on the shaft if they don't match. Even with torquing down the set-screw, it will put the knob slightly off-center, which will end up looking bad when you rotate it, or worse - it will scrape on the front plate of the amp.

Just checked the Schiit website - they use an Alps RK27 for the volume. That's definitely a round (no flat), 6mm shaft.

P.S. 22mm definitely means diameter, not circumference. No one refers to knob dimensions in circumference. ;-)

I've always been garbage at dimensions lol. Thank you for the help with the shaft depth (phrasing)! Now to measure the knob so I know I'm ordering the right size.

No problem. I should've looked at the Schiit website before I even started typing. There is no other stereo volume pot that looks like the Alps RK27, more commonly known as the Alps Blue Velvet. They always have a 6mm shaft. I've sold them myself for over 10 years on beezar.com. There are fakes out there, though - so be careful if you ever need to buy the volume pot.

The 50K Alps RK27 is the ideal pot for headphone amplifiers. I'm not sure what impedance Schiit has used in the Valhalla 2, because the 50K is a special manufacturing run from Alps. The last time I ordered them was right after the horrible Japanese tsunami and since the tsunami hit the plant, they made me order 400 of them, minimum. Before then, you only had to order 200 at a time to get the 50K.

I'm running on, now - but good luck on getting the replacement knob. You may find that purchasing a very nice knob is difficult and expensive. On the latest amps I built and sold (the T4 headphone amplifier), we used custom machined knobs, because they simply aren't available elsewhere. HongKongSuperSeller on ebay often has a great selection of inexpensiveknobs that are heavy and pretty good for the price. They aren't really machined, but sintered, instead:

They have several other styles if those aren't to your liking, but if I'm not mistaken, these are the same knobs Schiit uses on the Valhalla, but in black. ;-)

I had my eyes on this one specifically: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303597801764?hash=item46afd6d124:g:LmUAAOSwfTRe6K0~

Though now that I've disassembled the Valhalla, I can't actually figure out how to get the knob off lol. There's no set-screw that I could see. I tried pulling straight out and it doesn't budge. Didn't want to pull too hard though, so I'm not sure if it just takes more force to remove it.

According to many other links on Schiit amps, the knob, indeed - pulls off. You're correct in that it will take more force to remove it. Just in case, make certain that there's no visible set screw anywhere. A quick, straight pull is best - don't wiggle it.

Best scenario is if you could take the "lid" off and hold onto the pot while pulling on the knob. If you've been able to remove the wrap-around lid/front, then maybe this is the best way.

I disassembled the unit once to to retrieve the socket saver I dropped (oops) but I didn't think to look to see if there was a set screw holding the knob in place from inside, if that's even a thing. So I need to disassemble the unit and just make sure I'm not pulling too hard on the pot itself? Should I just remove the PCB altogether? Sorry for all the questions, I don't want to break anything.
