Can anyone recommend a decent, affordable USB sound card?

Is this line of USB sound cards any good?

What for?
I.e. What properties do you need (analog/digital I/O, multichannel, bit-perfect output, resolution (16 vs 24 -bit, 44.1 vs. 96 kHz) etc.)?

i have a question: which would be a better solution
an external soundcard
or
a dedicated dac

which would give a better a output? one of those or a combo of both?

btw, i'm talking about a laptop as a source

Sorry I'm a little late to say this, but I would advise against the SB Live! 24bit External. I had one for quite some time and it is not exactly good value, it gets relatively easy beaten by any middle class soundcard (Revo 5.1, Fortissimo, etc.).

It is certainly usable/listenable, but unless you really NEED something external you would even be better off with a half decent internal card. And there are, of course, a lot of better external devices.
