I just bought an inline controller by Griffin to use between my iPhone 3G and Tours Beats by Dre, and am wondering if it will affect the quality of sound since it is connected between the phone and earphones.

Well, anything in which the signal passes will affect the temperament of the signal.... it's whether the difference is detectable or too subtle to matter.

Frankly, I think you'll be ok, but the source/headphone combo probably won't be sensitive enough to make a difference anyway! Don't get me wrong, my iPhone 3G is often used in my portable rig when I forget my iPod on the dock but it won't give such a clear signal that it will be affected in the end but thats just my 2 cents

It will diminish the quality slightly, but as sugrhigh stated, the difference will be relatively small.
