Which one should I go for as a source if I can get either one at the same price?

I'm looking for a player that will be very detailed and maybe even a little bright because it will be offset by my headphones and amp.

Most important is the detail level, though.

Anyway, opinions are welcome.

Thanks,
Avo

I can't speak for the D500SE but I have both the Azur 640C and Marantz CD5001. The Marantz just all out sounds better than the Cambridge Audio. I am also not impressed with the reliability of the Cambridge Audio either. Get the Marantz.

I don't know how the D500SE sounds, but I do have a D300 which is from the same generation and it's definitely not bright and very detailed, quite the opposite: smooth, colorful, warm, with midbass hump and somewhat rolled off but very nice and silky treble. A great low cost source for my Stax setup, so obviously not what you need.
