Cambridge Audio Chipset?

I was listening to my setup last night and had some 96 khz/24bit files on my hard drive and thought I'd try to play them through my CA Dac 3 and they worked. The 48Khz lit up? Is the DA chip resampling the input?
 
Any ideas?
