Thanks to the very bad influence of all of you, I've been considering a new CD source....thought the 500se would be a good transport/dac combo...

I've noticed that www.value-audio.com is currently selling the 500se for $395, no shipping charges! Is this about as good as it can get for a new unit?

But if I get this, I won't have anything left over for my Cardas (or Stephan Audio) HD600 cables...what to do...

It's not a great price for the D500SE; Everest Audio (www.everestaudio.com) in Saskatchewan, Canada, has the player for Cdn$550 including shipping anywhere in North America; as I recall, they had it on special last month for an even lower Cdn$488.

Buy it! The word is speading about these players.The two stores that had them in Chicago have sold out.Audio Advisor has price matching and usually will beat a price by a few dollars to get the business and I know they sell this player.

Dunno about the price (bought mine used on the forum for around $275), but wanted to throw in my recommendation for the player. I love mine. (Make sure you get the silver faceplate version

)

Does anyone know if there are any kind of customs fees to receive items from Canada? I've never ordered anything from that far north before

I don't know about custom fees, but there's definitely tax. Around 13%.

Canadian sales taxes only apply to..*surprise* Canadians. So if a U.S.-based buyer makes a purchase from a Canadian store, you won't be paying sales taxes.

Sometimes, I just have to laugh. I hope the people that put this unit up for sale plan on spending 3 to 4 times as much to beat it.
