And yes... I am very curious.... at the moment.. (although I haven't really had time to compare..... my Grado 60's and my newly bought 580's)..

... (although... I just remembered.. that... I was lost in the music.... I guess I wasn't spoiled with lots of live music... so I am ignorant.. and was in bliss)

Anyways.. where was I? Yes.... Is the iPod worthy enough of a source for Oelbach cables?

(Wow I really want a SHORT cable....and sturdier : )

I think that whether it's a "good enough source" is the wrong question to ask. I think the right question to ask is: "What is the most cost efficient upgrade path?" The answer to that question would be: Headphones, Source, Amp, Cables. The reason I say that is because this is the order in which you see the greatest difference as you edge towards the point of diminishing returns.

Upgrading headphones will yield the greatest sonic differences. Upgrading the source will yield smaller, yet still substantial differences. Upgrading the amp results in more nuanced differences, which can still be pronounced, but can be of most consequence when the other two items are up to par. Finally, upgrading cables will put the cherry on the sonic sundae. You don't upgrade the cherry unless your ice cream, whipped cream and syrup are just right.

The Oehlbach "dark sounding"? I think that's the 1st time I've heard that. I didn't find that to be the case, but everyone hears differently I guess.
