In the construction of Kimber's interconnects, they use one wire for the signal, and two for the ground, all of which are then braided. Is it important that the three wires are of the same gauge, or could there be an advantage/detriment to decreasing the gauge of the signal wire? Does it matter?

I suspect that the gauge is not really much of an issue, since the current in an interconnect is very small.

If you are doing a hand braid then equal guage will make it easier handle. Other than that, shouldn't make a big difference, though there's the same amount of current on both the signal and return so an equal cross sectional area on both lines is ideal.

On Kimber's own cables there is one strand for the signal and two for the ground?

I think using 4-conductors (2-signal and 2-ground), sounds better.
