Not to hijack but I'm in the same boat and just about ready to pull the trigger on the M50's - seem like the best value to me all around. The only problem is I heard their soundstage is horrible and I would be gaming a lot with them.

I'm in exactly the same boat, the M50s seem very well suited to my music taste but everything I've read explains the soundstage is flawed. I would recommend buying a set of ATH AD700 second hand if you can, i picked up a set for £50 and they're practically brand new. AD700 + M50 got everything you need :)

One of the best all rounder headphone under 200$ is the srh840 imo. M50 isn't a good all rounder imo.

As a previous M50 owner, I would only recommend it if you are like me, on the road a lot and moving from place to place alot. The M50 is good if you abuse your headphones alot otherwise if you are more of a home listener and don't need to squeeze the headphones into your bag(like me) there are better options.

I really liked the DT 770, Shures 840.

Other headphones that are recommended a lot(for neutrality or a better soundstage) are(not my recommendations as I haven't tried them)

Brainwavz HM5
Fischer Audio FA-003
KRK KNS 8400

I'd like them to be portable(ish). Right now my 3 best options seems to be the KRK KNS8400, Sure SRH840, and the m50s....(and maybe Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro-80s)

Gah, If you want portable-ness-isity-ism (not a word in the dictionary surprisingly) , then the DT770 aren't for you, unless you'd be willing to buy an accompanying amp. However, even then, the Pro 80 cord is ridiculously long, I'm not too sure if that'd be an issue for yourself.

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm not really worth it unless you get a headphone amplifier to go along with them.
