I'm trying to find good-sounding closed cans for use previewing records for review. Problem is, we need three or four of them, so more expensive ones are out of the question. The requirements:

1. Closed
2. Comfortable
3. Accurate as possible - or at least no bass boom
4. Durable - may get abused and tossed around

Oh, and under $50 bucks or so would be a plus. Any candidates?

These are slightly over your budget, but the Sony MDR-V6/MDR-7506 are great monitor phones. You can often find them on sale for around $70 or so.

Yes, I owned a pair once. They have a good sound and work well with our kind of music. I'd even go for a refurb.
