Any suggestions on features on what makes a perfect DAP?

A Xin Supermicro integrated into a 160GB 0.47 inches slim DAP powered by Eneloop batteries for a 8 hours runtime with Flac support, gapless playback, top-notch DAC + discrete outputs, coaxial out, rca & 1/8 line outs. I think that's it !?!

iPod Touch design &interface, Wi-Fi with a good browser (a la iTouch/iPhone), 20+ hour battery life and 60+GB of storage. Oh, good SQ like the Kenwood DAPs, too.

realistically:
archos 604 wifi as it is (gapless, dvd-resolution video, video recording on the go, removable battery, touch screen), with toshiba hd instead of hitachi, stronger processor for internet browsing, a pulled down keyboard, and a 3mp camera/camcorder. it can be done, just no one done it yet.

Definitely that with more battery life.

minidisk-esque recording quality (not just capability) from line ins (opt and analogue). support for aac, alac, mp3 (i suppose ogg and flac - but i would not use them). ipod style hands off processing of sound but an editable real-time eq with no extra frills.

itunes compatible (would be nice to be an ipod)
flash (8-16)gb max.
ipod shuffle 1g amplification but without the hiss

Finally, it should be small yet have final output stage similar to that of supermicro iv.

This would be my ideal DAP:
* 30GB+ flash memory.
* Touch screen.
* 400 hours battery time.
* Built in electrostatic amplifier (to drive the Stax S-001mk2).
* Pocket size (comparable to the iPod touch).
* Hmm...
