Hey guys,
 
I'm looking for a relatively cheap ($150 max) usb-spdif converter to run Laptop--->converter--->Receiver.
 
I'm told that my Marantz 7.1 channel receiver (sr3001) has a DAC built in or is a separate DAC necessary as well?
 
I also have a external dac that i can use (Fiio e7) which connects to the laptop via usb however doesn't have digital out. Is this a big issue is it worth investing in a usb-spdif

Nope if u want to leverage the DAC on that Marantz do not get the E7 as it has RCA out and no coax/optical out so there is no point
