Budget CD player?

What color was the display? What color was the case? :p There's only 3 - 4 out there on the market, it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

As I detailed on the thread titled "Newbie CDP Upgrade - $1000 Budget," I advocate buying a good DAC, and whatever cheap, second-hand, beat up, or whatever DVD player as a transport. Think of the transport, that is, anything which will play a CD and has a digital output, as you would think of a printer cartridge: something to use, and to replace when used up.

How does the Marantz compare to your Zhaolu? I heard people saying that the older 6000 was better.. Any comment on that?

Oppo, you will be surprised on how good this little machines sound and how good the video is...it is breath taking for the price...

OPPO DV-980H (also gives you HDCD and SACD!), or the Marantz CD5001 (I hear some online retailers have the 5001 for under $250 if you look around). I own both, and both are great 'bang per buck' players.
