Brubeck, Anyone?

The nice thing, if you're into Brubeck, is that he's released many, many recordings. You could pick up any number of his records from the 50's and 60's and will probably end up enjoying them, also. Just look for recordings with his classic quartet (Desmond, Morello, Wright and Brubeck).

His later recordings with his sons and, probably the last ten years or so, with the saxophonist Bobby Melitello (I probably misspelled his last name) are also definitely worth checking out.

In my view, the original "classic quartet," as AudioDwebe calls it, is the best and, if you want to get into Brubeck, that's the place to start.

It was always my feeling that Brubeck, who played with heavy block chords and with obvious classical training, needed the soft touch of Paul Desmond. When Desmond left, at least for me, the group lost its core steam.
